what we do

Trauma Wellness consists of professional counselors who are licensed in the state of Tennessee. Each of them specialize in trauma of different types. This center is designed to have space for movement, play and sandtray therapy, art therapy, yoga and somatic therapy. The concept is based on the work of Bessel Vanderkolk who found that the body keeps the score of the traumas encountered in life.

We meet each person where they are and design the best treatement plan for that client that can incorporate any of the therapies mentioned and/or talk therapies such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

Owner and Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider Status

    Fee: $150 per hour

Hello, I have worked with people who have encountered trauma as a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. I completed my internship at a domestic violence shelter where I learned that I had been in two intimate partner violence relationships in my life. We aren’t taught about violence in relationships and what that really looks like, it is truly about control. I knew my relationships were not right but I would never have thought to put the word “abusive” on them. I don’t think any victim of such violence ever thinks of their relationship as abusive, at least that has been my experience over the past 20 years.

I ended up facilitating a support group for victims of domestic violence for the shelter for the next 12 years or so. When that stopped, I moved it into the Family Justice Center and continued it there.

My first job out of school was with the Project against Sexual Abuse of Appalachian Children (PASAAC). I was an outpatient therapist for children who had been sexually abused, adult survivors of sexual abuse and sexual offenders. My next position was as Clinical Director with Camelot Care working in therapeutic foster care. We worked with children in the foster care system needing therapeutic homes. We had therapists who went into those homes to work with those children multiple times a week. I learned a lot in both of these positions about play and art therapy with children and ways to help parents with children who have encountered trauma. My third position was as an investigator of abuse and neglect of people with disabilities in institutional settings. I learned a great deal about how people who are marginalized are sought out for victimization and oppression. From that job I went to create & develop the Knoxville Family Justice Center from its inception as the Executive Director serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Knox County. I spent fourteen years taking the Family Justice Center from being a hybrid with the government to being a stand alone 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. Once stabilized, I left to be a counselor for victims of trauma.

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and/or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) as a base for this work but will meet each person where they are. I also have a Bachelors degree in Dance Education which I incorporate to facilitate somatic healing for individuals. I have been seeing clients throughout my entire career. I am hopeful that this site will provide insight for victims to self-advocate as well.

In my spare time I enjoy knitting, crocheting, yoga, walking and spending time with my dog Lilah and my cat Samson.

My rate is $150 per session as I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I will consider reduced rates for those in need.

Finding support can be daunting but necessary for your journey to healing. Therapy is a wonderful place to enter into that journey in a safe and judgment free space. Whether you’re a skeptic of therapy or coming back, I’m so honored to journey with you. Coming to therapy takes tremendous courage. Through my own counseling and counseling others, I have seen how therapy can restore lives and relationships. It is my hope for my clients to feel seen, heard, and known throughout their counseling experience no matter what they are dealing with. I’m so glad you’re here.

My approach to counseling is collaborative, holistic, and relational. I work with all people from ages 10 and above. I specialize in grief care, children with learning disabilities, adoption and foster care, parenting, miscarriages, pregnancy complications, couples conflict, career exploration, spiritual concerns, sexuality, and major life changes. I offer psychotherapy working from both a biblical framework and a clinical approach.

At times, life can be full of uncertainty. Sometimes it can seem unrelenting, but I believe in hope and teaching my clients to hope once more. If you are struggling I would be so honored to walk alongside you, your children, your relationships, your marriage, and your careers!

I received my masters in clinical counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary. There I learned how to sit with my own story of brokenness which has helped immensely in sitting with other’s dealing with different and/or similar issues. There I learned how to diagnose mental disorders, counsel couples, and thrive to bring both a biblical understanding to psychotherapy. Some of my hobbies are gardening, planning and starting small businesses, finding the best donut shops, and cooking, all while continuing to grow daily into being the best husband and father I can be.

Counselor in Supervision working towards licensure. I work with adolescent and adult clients. I have experience in working with individuals struggling with substance use. I also have experience working with first responders who may be struggling with PTSD, depression, and anxiety related to job duties.

In addition to being a therapist, I also work as an AEMT with an ambulance service. I understand that the job is difficult and often lacks support.

I am very passionate about offering a safe and supportive space for individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma related disorders such as PTSD. I am particularly interested in using Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and Motivational interviewing (MI) to work with individuals.

I also have a golden retriever who is in the process of being trained as a therapy dog to assist in sessions. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and animals. I enjoy doing puzzles and reading.

My current rate is $135 until I receive my license, then it will be $150. I expect/hope to be licensed by the end of the year. I will consider reduced rates for those in need.
